Why I'm Tracking Verizon Fios Deals

A few years ago, several buddies and I flew from New York to Virginia Beach for some R & R. We all bought tickets on the same flight. After I purchased my "non-refundable / non-cancellable" ticket, I found out that 1 of my friends paid less than I paid.

Needless to say, I was really mad. When I got home, I began comparing what I was paying for other stuff against advertised prices from the same companies for the same Fios services: TV, internet, and home phone services.

One of the first things I checked with my Verizon Fios bill. Sure enough, Verizon was advertising a bundle with faster Fios Internet, at a lower price.

I called Verizon and requested a lower rate, which they did give to me for one year. I appreciated that courtesy. But, I started to monitor Verizon Fios internet plans. What I found was that, like many companies, Verizon was constantly testing different offerings with different bundles and different prices. So, I decided that I was going to find the latest and greatest Fios deals and put them on this blog.

I don't know how long I can keep doing this… It's not easy to impress girls when you tell them that you've become the Fios Police :)

Why Verizon Internet Rules

Originally, one of my closest friends was lucky to get Verizon internet installed at his place. I had to settle for Comcast since my condominium wasn't wired up for Fios yet.

I loved hanging out there and visiting him since his Fios TV quality and digital interface was amazing.Plus, the new internet speeds were ridiculously fast compared to what I could get back at my place. If Fios was available in my area, I would have dropped my slower Comcast service in a heartbeat… Especially with these current Fios offers.

I remember first reading about Verizon's Fios plan to spend billions of dollars to expand the Fios footprint and introduce it into more homes for internet Fios services. It was called a risky move because the common belief was that fast wireless internet was on the way. That was ~~fivesix~~ seven years ago. Welp… The latest wireless technologies still can't begin to touch the speed and reliability of what Verizon's direct fiber optic line is able to offer.

Why Fios Is Better Than Cable Internet

Already using a cable-based internet service provider such as Comcast, Cox, or Time Warner? Then you will really appreciate the speed and quality of Fios! The Fios TV and DVR interface is crystal clear and super clean. That's because instead of compressing the TV signal and sending it through a regular copper cable line, Verizon Fios uses a fiber optic line wired directly into your home.

Another benefit: Your fiber optic internet line is completely independent of your neighbors'. That means when several people in your neighborhood are downloading or streaming Netflix, Hulu and Youtube, your internet still loads super fast and looks amazing. Your Fios internet speed will never slow down… even during peak evening hours!

Verizon's continuing to take over this market share by competing directly with the big cable companies (meaning ultimately better deals for you). Comcast recently renamed their version of the "Triple Play" bundle- now called Xfinity. New name… same old copper cables!

To be fair they have developed newer technologies to maximize the copper cables are much as they can. But ultimately they cannot match the speed and consistency you get from fiber optic cables. This could be why Comcast continues to impose monthly caps on downloading and uploading.

Verizon Fios Availability in 2021

Verizon Fios is not available in every household, it's only available in select areas. Today around 18 million homes in the US are wired for Fios.

If Fios is not available to you, you'll have to find your next best option. I've been asked many times to recommend an alternative ISP. I am endorsing bundled DIRECTV + AT&T for those of you who live in a city where it's available. I would personally prefer Verizon internet for all the reasons listed above, but DIRECTV AT&T is a solid alternative at this time.
